The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Foundation was originated in 2003 by former Sheriff, Mike Brasfield in 2003, however, the concept became a reality when it was recognized as a Charitable Non-Profit Foundation by the Washington Secretary of State in 2006 and received Federal tax exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue code in 2007.
Our primary purpose for creating the Foundation was to support the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and to promote citizen participation in creating a community where all citizens can live safely and without fear. The Foundation it self is managed by a Board of Trustees composed of citizen volunteers who reside within Jefferson County.
The Foundation is actively involved in developing, improving and supporting directly and indirectly many non-profit programs. Among them are: educational, crime prevention, intervention programs and services that improve the quality of life for all of our residents. This work requires supplemental funding that is beyond the budgetary discretion of the Sheriff’s Department. Included are increased training, educational courses, lectures, panel discussions, forums, computer software/hardware and recognition events that could not otherwise be funded by Jefferson County. All of the above enhance the development and effectiveness of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department without impacting the additional constraints of their budget.
